Chicken Shawarma Recipe with yogurt and mayonnaise + homemade shawarma wrap

Today I am sharing with you super versatile & protein packed chicken shawarma recipe, Chicken shawarma is my personal favorite food, I find that the taste of spicy, creamy sauces along with the crunchy veggies on every bite is heavenly, and kind of mellowed out truly pleasantly when its served with flavorful and soft homemade shawarma wraps.

The chicken in this recipe has got really lovely texture on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Its super flavorful and delicious just on its own but even more tasty with wraps


Ingredients for Marinating Chicken

3 lb. boneless skinless chicken

1 tsp salt

2 tbsps. Vinegar

½ tsp turmeric powder

2 tbsps. ginger and garlic paste

2 tbsps. Yogurt

2 tsp paprika/red chili powder

2 tsp garam masala powder

2 tbsps. coriander leaves, finely chopped

2 green chilies, finely chopped


Ingredients for Yogurt and Mayonnaise Sauce

3 tbsps. yogurt

3 tbsps. mayonnaise

1 tbsp. garlic powder

Directions

To make Yogurt and Mayonnaise Sauce

  1. To a bowl add equal amount of yogurt and mayonnaise, I have taken 3 tablespoons each. Along with 1 tbsp. of garlic powder.

  2. Mix it all up and our sauce is ready.

Marinating and pan frying Chicken

  1. I am going to pan fry the chicken on the stove but you could also cook them in the oven or air fryer if you’d like

  2. Cut the chicken into little bite sized pieces and then transfer it to a bowl

  3. Now add 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsps. vinegar, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 2 tbsps. ginger and garlic paste, 2 tbsps. Yogurt, 2 tsp paprika/red chili powder, 2 tsp garam masala powder, finely chopped 2 tbsps. coriander leaves and 2 green chilies, toss it to coat and set it aside for 30 minutes.

  4. Pan fry the marinated chicken in a large pan on high heat and cook this until golden brown, it takes about 8-10 minutes. Repeat the same with rest of the chicken.

  5. Now when the chicken is golden and finished frying we can remove from the heat and set it aside.

To Serve it

  1. Spread a tbsp of yogurt and mayonnaise sauce on the wrap, top it with finely chopped romaine lettuce, pickled cucumber, tomatoes, pickled jalapenos and then place the chicken. Then drizzle with yogurt and mayonnaise sauce followed by siracha sauce and classic yellow mustard over the top. Wrap with parchment to hold it together and enjoy!

Note:

  1. Before marinating the chicken, I have cleaned the chicken squeezed out as much liquid as possible so that the chicken can absorb more of the marinade.

  2. A little tip about pan frying chicken, just add enough chicken on the pan try not to overcrowd the pan as they lower the temperature and release lot of water, which prevents the chicken from browning.


!!!The more food added to the pan the lower the temperature falls so do not crowd your pan!!!
