Homemade Hazel Nut Butter + Spreads

Homemade nut butters are a great way to add protein and healthy fats without the added calories and preservatives of store-bought versions. You can customize and try with various combinations of nuts like cashews, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, macadamia or brazil nuts. I like to dry roast the nuts for richest flavor.


To make it extra nutritious:

You can add seeds for added nutrition like pumpkin, sunflower seeds or soy nuts to the recipe


For Sweetness:

Add dried fruits like raisins, pitted dates, honey, and maple syrup. Start by adding a teaspoon of honey for example and add more if needed. Sweetened nut butters tastes great on fresh fruit, smoothies


For Creamier Consistencies:

Add a teaspoon of coconut oil it gives a tropical flavor or flaxseed oil for an omega 3 boost.




Hazelnut Butter Recipe

Serves 8

Total time: 5 minutes


Ingredients


Direction

1. Add the nuts into a food processor or high speed blender and puree for 5 minutes. This could even take a bit longer, depending on the type of blender you have and whether you're working with raw or roasted nuts.

2. Stop the blender/processor regularly to scrape down the sides. Keep puréeing until you end up with a smooth, creamy paste consistency.

3. Transfer nut butter into an airtight container and refrigerate.

Note

1. Store them in the refrigerator for up to two weeks there’s no need to stir with each use
